Social Studies
The Social Studies Department offers a four-year series of classes that integrate history, geography, economics, and citizenship education, all aligned with the Pennsylvania Common Core Standards. Our curriculum emphasizes critical thinking and inquiry-based learning. Teachers guide students in examining historical and contemporary issues from multiple perspectives, using a variety of resources. They model and encourage the close reading of authentic primary documents. The goal of social studies is to foster civic competence—the knowledge, intellectual skills, and democratic values necessary for students to become active, engaged participants in public life. High expectations for writing and projects that demonstrate mastery of key skills and knowledge are essential to student success.
